Registered Town Planner

We are looking for a Registered Town Planner (SACPLAN) to join our dynamic team and contribute professional planning expertise to a range of urban development and infrastructure projects.

Role Purpose
The Town Planner will be responsible for providing statutory, strategic, and spatial planning services on urban development projects. The role includes preparing planning applications, conducting spatial analyses, and ensuring compliance with planning legislation and municipal requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and submit land use applications (rezoning, subdivisions, consolidations, consent uses, departures, etc.) in compliance with local municipal by-laws.
• Conduct site assessments, contextual analyses, and prepare planning motivation reports.
• Advise clients and project teams on planning feasibility, legislation, and development potential.
• Engage with municipal planning departments and other authorities to facilitate approvals.
• Prepare spatial development frameworks, precinct plans, and layout plans where required.
• Participate in public participation processes and stakeholder engagements.
• Provide planning input on multidisciplinary projects, including infrastructure and housing developments.
• Support design teams with planning compliance and development control requirements.
• Stay updated on planning legislation, policies, and guidelines.

Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Town and Regional Planning / Urban Planning or equivalent.
• Registered with the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN) as a Professional or Technical Planner (provide registration number).
• Minimum 3 years’ professional experience in urban and regional planning in South Africa.
• Sound knowledge of municipal planning by-laws, SPLUMA, Land Use Management Systems (LUMS), and other relevant legislation.
• Proficiency in GIS software (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS) and planning design tools (advantageous).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
• Valid South African ID and driver’s licence.

• Experience with informal settlement upgrading, social housing, or infrastructure development projects.
• Understanding of sustainable urban development principles.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
